Over a ten year period (from 1985 to 1995) I made a number of long trips to French Réunion Island. With the local art teachers and students I painted murals on the theme of daily life. After having immersed myself in the local culture, I began to feel a need to work alone on easel paintings in order to express myself more personally and in a permanent media. My Reunion Island experience culminated in an exhibit, with the photographer Jean Philippe, at the Museum of Mankind in Paris, place Trocadero, in 1995.
